According to a 2009 study, 50% of little girls 3-to-6 think they’re fat.
What does it even mean when a 3-year-old thinks she’s “fat?” It may not have anything to do with BMI or conscious societal expectations, but children know it’s “bad….”

As Dr. Robyn Silverman summarized, the studies basically showed a few things: 1. “Thin means I want to play with you and fat means I don’t want you as a friend”; 2. “Thin means you’re nice and fat means you’re mean”; 3. “Thin means we prefer you.”
Irrational? Yes — but not that far a cry from the fat-phobia adults express less-directly on a daily basis. What’s alarming is that it’s internalized so young.” via Jezebel. http://jezebel.com/5795814/incredibly-young-children-think-theyre-fat

Body Bash Fridays! (New friends, that means BODY LOVIN’ all day, party style. Haters - take the day OFF).

There are things our bodies do that science can’t explain, that technology has yet to replicate, and that we completely overlook on our quest to ”perfection”. We’re the OWNERS of complicated, miraculous, magical entities that allow us to… make friends, have fun, get us from A to B, th…ink, laugh, build, create, dance, run, smile, love, high kick, see, connect, make love, heal and touch everything around us.

It’s a shame we don’t spend more time MARVELING at them. It’s a shame that we sometimes treat them poorly, like they are an obstacle we have to overcome or something we’re supposed to beat down into submission. It’s a shame that we’re so focused on what they LOOK like that we ignore all the glorious, bad ass things they do for us. Every single thing you LOVE to do, your body helped you get there, do it, or had a big part in making it happen.

Our bodies don’t care about six pack abs, cellulite, or whether or not we drop those last 5-10lbs. They don’t give a hoot if we look ”hot”, have perky boobies or fit into our old jeans. Our bodies ONLY care about doing their jobs - keeping us alive & fixing us when we’re ”broken”. Our responsibility is to help them do so and provide them with the best possible environment so they can do their thing. It’s not to starve them, berate them, shame them or hurt them to satisfy the needs of our egos.

Everyone’s circumstances and limitations are different. But all our bodies are fucking amazing. Because of what they do - not because of what they look like.

Repeat this a few times today: “My body is fucking amazing.”

(join the party on Facebook too)
