Dragon Shakes

Tried my first dragon fruit this week (so pretty!) and LOVED this smoothie combo! Make it your own by using whatever fruit you like. :)

1 Banana
1 Dragon Fruit
1/4 Mango
1/2 cup greek yogurt
Ice
* coconut extract or shavings optional… But recommended. Mmmm. I used about 1/4 of a fresh coconut, plus the juice.

HEAVEN.

Vegan Breakfast Smoothie! avocado, spinach, walnut & mango smoothie with frozen mango chunks.

Isn’t she pretty?

Prepping for an elimination diet, so dairy and bananas will be out for awhile. Testing dairy free smoothies and options, and this one was pretty good! I froze the almond milk and avocado: not all the way, but for an hour or so. Helped with texture: i like creamy. I put them in my blender and put the blender in the freezer. Lazy like that. :)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup spinach (or half, up to you!)
  • ½ medium avocado
  • 2 Tbs. walnuts
  • ¾ cup frozen mango cubes
  • Extra mango cubes as ice cubes (just toss them in!)

Blend & eat!

Blue-Nan Re-Group Smoothie

Getting my appetit back! Re-fueling the bod. Healing starts with good nutrition, and I’ve been lacking in that department since I’ve been sick. Drinking my greens is an easier task than eating them, so hitting up the juicing and smoothies the last two days. Finally have a smidge of energy back. :)

I did yogurt here, but almond milk (or whatever you use) is fine. Freezing your fruit (and/or spinach) ahead of time helps the texture tons. Mangos also make great banana replacements, but you can use any fruit you like. PLAY! :

Shots, shots, shots, sh-sh-shots, shots, shots, sh-sh-shots, shots, shots, sh-sh-shots EVERY-BAH-DAY!

Smoothies… Mmmmm…

Got a few smoothie questions about blenders and blades breaking due to ice. Unless you have an uber fancy blender, ice can be a killer on your blades (I burned out 3 blenders in my first year making smoothies).

If you like icy consistency but are blowing through blenders, aside from investing in a better one, there are a few tips that can help.

1. Freeze your fruit. Helps save moola & time, but also gives your smoothies that icy consistency without the cubes. (fruit is mostly water afterall).
2. If it’s a watery smoothie, just stick the cubes in there as is. Keeps it cold, and clinks in the glass (if u like things clinky. Fancypants).
3. (as pictured) Use frozen berries in the smoothie (no blending). Same effect as the cubes, but you can eat them with a spoon after. Fun stuff. :)

Above: This “dessert” smoothie was banana, mango, orange, blended with a smidge protein powder, chia seeds, a smidge greek yogurt and topped with frozen blueberries. Delish. :)

Warm Banana Spice Smoothies

Have you ever tried a “warm” smoothie? It’s fantastic for this time of year! While I usually go for apple (apple pie smoothies are my kryptonite), thought I’d give banana a go! Added ginger too for an immune system boost.

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana (helps if it’s ripe)
  • 1/4 inch knob of fresh ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup of HOT almond milk
I stuck the banana in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, heated the milk on the stove, then smushed everything in a blender. 2 minutes and done!

If you need me, I’ll be high fiving myself for the rest of the day. :)

Matching my smoothie to my surroundings. Life’s little pleasures. :)

I know it’s weird, but it thrills me beyond reason when I get it just right. :)

Ahhhhhhh….

Spinach gave it the green hue, and the rest is yogurt, banana, mango and pineapple with a scoop of protein powder.

Win. :)

My friend’s 7 year old son: “Call it The Swamp”

Me: “That doesn’t sound very healthy, hahaha!”

Him: “Call it The Swamp For Champions”.

Done.

2 cups spinach. 1 cup mixed blueberries & raspberries, 1 banana, flax seeds, ice.

Faboosh pre-workout fuel. The Swamp For Champions is right. :)

(and NO, you can’t taste the spinach! If this picky 7 year old thought it was yummy, you will too!)
