After starting the paleo diet, I started craving the exact foods I wasn’t allowed to eat. This is my first...

Woot! No to scales! (they’re assholes anyways). I haven’t owned a scale in over 4 years. It feels amazing. I’ve literally weighed myself 4 times in the last couple of years, and usually it was only to keep track of a challenge I was taking part in.
In all seriousness, the scale can be a useful tool… if you’re using it appropriately AND if it’s not interferring with your sense of self. If you’re weighing yourself more than once a day (I used to weigh in every time I headed to the bathroom) and you notice a mood change every time the scale goes up one pound, you may need to put it away.
In general, weigh yourself no more than once a week (or at all), and/or use your clothing as an indicator of how you’re doing instead. Daily fluctuations are normal, and can swing by as much as 4-5 lbs.
‘I don’t own a scale in my home’: Sarah Michelle Gellar on why she refuses to weigh herself.
‘You can’t live your life by the scale. We don’t even have one in our house. I’ve never believed in them, because your weight fluctuates,’ she told the magazine. ‘It’s more about how my clothing fits than a number.’
‘Besides, if you deny yourself everything because you’re so focused on the mirror or the scale, then when do you get to enjoy life?’
‘I still work out, but not five days a week. I do Pilates, I run on the treadmill, I walk to the soundstage rather than taking the cart,’ she says. ‘I wish I could say I was in the best shape of my life right now, but I don’t put the same pressure on myself that I used to. So I don’t rock a bikini on Wilshire Boulevard… but I don’t know many people who do!’
The actress, who has been married to actor Freddie Prinze Jr and gave birth to their daughter Charlotte Grace two years ago, admits that she has found it difficult to have her figure constantly analysed by the media.
‘If you wear one bulky sweater, you’re pregnant or you’re fat. When you’re 5-foot-4 like me, any weight gain can look like a lot,’ she says.
‘People dissect you for 2 pounds. That can be incredibly difficult, but I don’t take it as personally anymore.’

If you follow fitness trends, you’ll know that the Bar Method is one of the hottest workouts around. According to the site, the Method “integrates the fat burning format of interval training, the muscle shaping technique of isometrics, the elongating principles of dance conditioning, and the science of physical therapy to create a revolutionary new workout that quickly and safely reshapes your entire body”.
If you’re unfamiliar, the Method is based on ballet/dance training, and uses a ballet bar as a tool to tighten & tone you like a dancer. Dancer muscles tend to be on the longer, leaner and more toned side of things for their body type (you can be any kind of body type to dance) because of the style of the movement.
It’s a fabulous mix of strength, flexibility, agility & power.
