The botanical definition of a berry is a fleshy fruit produced from a single ovary. While we typically use the term ‘berry’ to describe any small, edible fruit, botanically speaking many fruits and veggies are ‘berries’, including tomatoes, bananas, pumpkins and more.
Strawberries are an aggregate fruit, formed from seeds from different ovaries of a single flower. In other words, NOT an actual berry.
