Hey there,
Of course!
Beginner’s shouldn’t worry so much about finding the best program, or the “right” program. All beginners should focus on is consistency: moving everyday and making it a habit. To make this process easier, focus on finding a workout you enjoy at first: a walk, Zumba, yoga, jogging and yes, Wii Fit.
Once it becomes a habit (usually takes about a month), then you can start tweaking to suit your goals. While we love fast results, slow and steady wins the race when it comes to weightloss and fitness. Once you’ve made moving a habit, you can start adding weight training, higher intensity and try new things.
We tend to get bored with routines every 3-8 weeks, so keeping things fresh will keep your workout lust hot. It will also help boost your results: our bodies adapt to training styles as we master them. Great for the ego, but not as big of a challenge for the body. Trying new things keeps us from getting bored and plateauing.
Remember, fitness is just one component: diet (not a diet, but rather what you eat everyday) is INCREDIBLY important to fuel your body and improve your health (or help weight loss if that’s what you’re looking for). Making small changes and focus on eating cleaner while you work on your fitness. Limiting processed and chemical foods (if the ingredients sound like cleaning products, it’s not good) and working on portions can help drastically. I tend to tell people to work on adding more IN to your diet rather than removing items. More veggies. More lean protein. More often.
Whether it’s Wii Fit, a class, a DVD or just walking, beginners should commit to moving 5-6 days a week for about a half hour. Unless you’ve got this part down, it’ll be hard to stick to ANY program.
Hope this helps!
