Running History: First Ladies
Roberta Gibbs was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon (1966) and Kathrine Switzer was the first to run the race as an official entrant (1967).
But the first female marathoner was Merry Lepper. She ran the 1963 Culver City Marathon in California in 3:37:07.
